The second weekend of July we went to the European Folklore Festival in Bitburg. This is one of the biggest festivals in the area. Many nations come to the festival dressed in their traditional garb and put on performances. This was the first festival we have gone to in Germany. We were not aware that most of the festivals start later in the afternoon. We did have fun seeing what was going on at the time we were there. We were able to see keg rolling advent. There is a lot more to keg rolling than one would think. It takes a lot of skill and practice. It did start raining on us while we were out. So we left early. We will be going back next year, now that we know how these things work!
The kids are planning on playing on the goat statues (children dressed like goats...more on this in a later blog) that are in the plaza.
Here are some pictures from the bierfassrollen (Beer Keg Rolling) race. They had a course setup that you had to go through and the runs were timed. The teams were made up of four people. It was like a relay race. I think Mark should join the Med Group bierfassrollen team next year.
