Pig Fest!

The weekend of Pig Fest was our 12th wedding anniversary.  What could be a better way to celebrate than going to a festival that involves pigs?  The White’s came up to spend the weekend with us, and  they brought their trusty baby sitter with them.  During the day we took the kids and Amber with us to Pig Fest.  That night we went back without the kids and enjoyed the Fest without the kids.

Pig Fest is a BIG deal around here. Once we arrived there we understood why. I am sure you are asking yourself “What in the world is Pig Fest?”, well there is story behind and the best way to tell you about it is to share the story.

The legend holds that years ago the village was surrounded by walls with heavy gates to keep invaders out. When the village came under attack by the Huns, a guard lost the iron pin that was used to lock the gate. To keep the gate closed he placed a carrot in the hole. A pig then came by and ate the carrot. The door then was open and the Huns entered and attacked the town. The town was then angry at pigs so they rounded them up and burned them. The Pig Fest has been held every year in retribution to the pig that caused the town's destruction. The festival includes beer, wine, rides, singing, dancing, and lots of pork!

As always pictures tell the story better than I ever could!

Here are the little piggies strung up in the window of the toy store.

They have a parade and the guest of honor are brought in on a wagon.  Here we are waiting for the parade to start.

The pigs!!! The meat was amazing. It melted in your mouth.  They had just started cooking the pig the day we were there. The last count we saw before we left was about 35 pigs had been cooked!
